Publishing House

The inaugural issue of Newmag magazine was published in September 2007. The brand name originated from combining the English words new and magazine. Initially, the editorial office operated as part of the Ulysses Media group, which also included the New Wave television company, the New Radio station, and New Magazine. The title was originally selected in English, later shortened to form the distinctive name Newmag.

In 2011, journalist and media manager Artak Aleksanyan acquired the magazine and established New Mag LLC. The company was officially registered on September 26, 2011—a date now recognized as the founding day of Newmag.

From 2011 to 2017, Newmag was published monthly, releasing over 90 issues that became a cultural and intellectual mirror of the era. In 2012, the company launched the website newmag.am, offering readers a fresh and engaging stream of science and culture content. The final print edition was released in December 2017.

At the start of 2018, Newmag embarked on a new chapter, transitioning to book publishing. On June 30 of that year, the publishing house introduced its first book to the public—an Armenian translation of Mark Manson’s global bestseller The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck*.

Initially, Newmag concentrated on translating internationally acclaimed popular non-fiction. Over time, the publishing catalogue expanded to include books by Armenian authors, as well as Armenian and international fiction. Since 2023, the company has also operated a dedicated children’s literature series.

Beyond publishing, Newmag actively supports community libraries in Armenia, organizes its own literary festivals, and participates in leading international literary fairs.

Today, Newmag distinguishes itself among Armenian publishing houses through its unique editorial style, modern design, and commitment to delivering high-quality literature to readers of all ages, without boundaries or restrictions.
