Kazimir Malevich
Kazimir Malevich (1878-1935) was a famous Russian avant-garde artist, art theorist, philosopher, and founder of Suprematism, one of the earliest manifestations of abstract art in modern times. His painting "Black Square", one of the most mysterious works of the 20th century, is a challenge to traditional painting. Malevich's conviction was provocative: "The task of art is not simply to depict objects, but to get rid of non-essential details and become art itself."
