Avetik Isahakyan's birthday was celebrated at the Zangak bookstore on October 30, with the release of a special new book ahead of his 150th anniversary.

On Avetik Isahakyan’s birthday, his House-Museum launched a new book as part of the Newmag & Friends series, titled "Avo, Do I Drop the Whip…?". This collection includes humorous and heartfelt miniatures from 42 of Isahakyan’s contemporaries, offering a glimpse into his sincerity and warm humor.

The book was edited by Isahakyan’s grandson, Avik Isahakyan, a professor and literary critic.

“While searching for a smiling photo of the Master for the cover, I realized how rare those moments were. He lived through many tragedies and hard days. That's why we wanted to portray his humor, to see another side of him."

Avik Isahakyan initially considered naming the book "Master's Smile”, but felt that Newmag's fresh perspective called for something more playful.

“The memories of those close to him reveal the real Isahakyan. There’s a funny story of when Shiraz would bring his writings to him, and Isahakyan, with a smile, would say, ‘This must have been written by Silva,’ before crumpling up what he disliked.”

The collection was compiled by Ruzanna Mesropyan, head of the Exhibition Organization and Popularization Department at the House-Museum, who has gathered these stories over years of research.

"These are authentic, carefully chosen stories,” she explains. “Avik Isahakyan was instrumental in selecting stories from 42 authors that show new facets of his character—his humor, simplicity, and intelligence.”

Museum director Armenuhi Avetisyan added:

“Our visitors are always drawn to personal stories about Isahakyan. This book highlights who he was with his family and friends, giving a warmer, closer connection to our literary elders."

"Working with Newmag is not easy—they set a very high standard and are incredibly confident in their vision. I’m proud that we have a publishing house of such quality, where both content and presentation are given equal importance. Newmag truly excels at bringing material to life with exceptional attention to detail."

“Avo, Do I Drop the Whip…?" is now available at newmag.am and bookstores.
