As in all her books, in this novel as well, all the details and developments are familiar - Armenian atmosphere, ordinary people with extraordinary destinies, rich language and national wisdom. The novel explores various deep layers behind human decisions and that’s why it becomes almost impossible to accuse anyone; Even Simon.
Simon is a mason who lives in Berd. In the beginning of the novel Simon dies. He has lived a long life full of love affairs. Simon really liked women. Each new romance was special to him, filled with unconditional love and seduction. Each time he broke up with respect and dignity. That’s the reason that during his funeral all of Simon’s lovers gather in one place; Sofya from Mushegh’s family, Eliza from Tevos’s family, arrogant Susanna, widowed Silva, and of course, Simon’s wife - Melanya, who patiently endured her husband’s character for years.
And everything like in movies - drama, humor and familiar scenes. It seems that Simon's lovers are different from each other, but in fact, they are not. It soon becomes clear that they have more in common than just loving the same man.
The book title is “Simon”, but it’s about women. It is a romance with very personal, psychologically accurate stories about the development, temptations and salvation of women. The book translator is Naira Khachatryan, editor is Margarita Sargsyan. The author of book illustrations is Narine Abgaryan’s sister - Sona Abgaryan.
