09/17/2024
FrancoFest 2024 is set to take place on October 12, marking a momentous occasion as Armenia officially joins the prestigious ranks of the Goncourt literary tradition. This historic event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Francophone literature and culture, bringing together readers, writers, and literary enthusiasts. The inclusion of Armenia in this renowned literary prize is a testament to the nation's growing cultural significance on the international stage, making FrancoFest 2024 an unforgettable milestone in the country's cultural calendar.
For the first time in its century-long history, the prestigious Goncourt Prize is officially coming to Armenia, marking an extraordinary cultural milestone. As the most renowned literary award in the Francophone world, the Goncourt Prize extends its reach to countries of significant strategic, cultural, and civilizational importance, and Armenia now joins these distinguished ranks.
From this point forward, Armenia will select its own candidate for the Goncourt Prize, with the chosen laureate's name being revealed on the day of the Goncourt competition. The selected author will be invited to Armenia, and their work will be translated into Armenian, bringing contemporary Francophone literature closer to Armenian readers.
This groundbreaking cultural achievement has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of Newmag, the French Institute, and the French University in Armenia. Together, they have paved the way for Armenia’s integration into this celebrated literary tradition.
Armenia is poised to become a significant landmark on the literary map of the Francophone world. The official inauguration of the national jury for the Goncourt Prize will be celebrated during Newmag’s FrancoFest.
To mark this historic occasion, distinguished Goncourt Prize jury member, the renowned French writer and philosopher Pascal Bruckner, along with Françoise Rossino, Chief Delegate of the Goncourt Academy, will be gracing Yerevan with their presence.
Join us for a celebration of French culture and literary excellence at the French Festival of Spirit, Thought, and Imagination on October 12, from noon until evening.
