The fourth Yerevan Book Fest kicked off on July 30. This is a real festival for book-lovers, filled with book presentations, meetings with writers, movie screenings and big discounts. Newmag Publishing House took part in Yerevan Book Fest. Besides the wel

The book exhibition-fair is in the Artists' Union. Meetings with special guests at the Moscow Cinema are aimed to strengthen the duo of cinema and literature. The address of masterclasses and discussions on literary topics is Zangak bookstore. According to Ani Ghazaryan, program manager of the Yerevan Book Fest, visitors can enjoy big discounts during those three days. “The publishers offer around 50% discounts. We have 40 big and smaller publishers participating in the Book Fest. The readers can leave the fest with heavy begs, which will later have an immense impact on their future.”

Book presentations are making the Book Fest even more interesting, colorful and unique. Newmag Publishing House presents the “One Hundred Years of Humanity” book. The books summed up the 100-year-old history of one of the most renowned and reliable organizations in the country - the Armenian Red Cross. The head of Information and dissemination department of the Armenian Red Cross Nune Grigoryan highlights the importance of summing all the defining and important stories in one book. “We had various reports, facts and interviews, but all of them were on separate platforms. Thus, we needed a book that would summarize different aspects of our work in a single literary piece.”

For more than two years the book author Gohar Manukyan found and collected archival materials and photographs from individuals, archives and museums. She summed up her findings in the book. “We have collected facts from different sources, both from the National Library of Armenia and the National Archive. In addition, we gained information from various books, documents and photographs.”

The Armenian Red Cross has always been among the first to respond to all the disasters that have befallen Armenia for 100 years. The assistance provided by the organization during the pandemic and the 44-day war have also been significant. Book editor Gnel Nalbandyan claims that besides facts and numbers the book consists of historical overviews.“Exceptional events are presented in an easily digestible writing style. The language of the book is very friendly. Of course, the reader can feel that the author is a journalist, because the strict style of a journalist is a little different from the poetic style of a writer. We have tried to find a middle ground, because our readers have various backgrounds, from students to government officials and social workers.”

On the last weekend of July readers can also acquire the Armenian translations of international bestsellers. The fourth Yerevan Book Fest will be summed up on August 1.
