Newmag presented Susanna Harutyunyan's book "The Guilty Past of the Forest" as part of Women’s Month at Common Ground. This collection of short stories comprises 19 tales capturing the essence of real-life experiences, delving into the intricacies of the

Classmates, close friends, and devoted readers eagerly gathered at the Common Ground literary cafe to extend their congratulations to Susanna Harutyunyan on the release of her latest book, "The Guilty Past of the Forest," and to have the privilege of being among the first to delve into its pages. This marks Harutyunyan's 12th publication. For Harutyunyan, the creation of short stories transcends mere duty; it's an artistic endeavor where she strives to encapsulate ideas and characters with brevity and elegance. In today's fast-paced world, time is precious for both writer and reader, compelling her to shed light on her protagonists' lives through concise yet captivating narratives.

"For me, what matters most is the individual, regardless of whether they reside in a city, a village, or even on the Moon. I believe that people, regardless of their location, experience love and death in similar ways. Besides, historically, Armenia has been characterized by its vibrant rural communities rather than sprawling urban centers."

A year ago, Newmag published the writer's novel "Andranik's Last Horse", whose editor, like this collection of short stories, was Armen Amirkhanyan. In the case of both books, he was delighted, amazed and excited. All of Susanna Harutyunyan's works are unexpected, regardless of the genre.

"The reason for the global catastrophe is also the retreat of the high literary mind. If Homer had not written the Iliad, the statue of Laocoon would not have been created. Whatever writers write should be read years, even centuries later. In stories and novels, Susanna often represents the rural human being. The big city phenomenon rarely happened in Armenia. It is the rural resident who knows what the soil is."

Hasmik Hakobyan, a literary critic and literature teacher emphasized that she often recommends the writer's works for students to read and familiarize themselves with the books of the modern author.

"The writer is a mediator between the modern life and the individual, and through literature, he or she should help the individual to better understand the modern life, and those writers who can correctly and appropriately address the reality succeed."

Artak Aleksanyan, CEO of Newmag, emphasized that there is only one reason for publishing Susanna Harutyunyan's books for the second time. "Susanna Harutyunyan is the most talented female writer of our time. This is our opinion. Reading her is interesting regardless of what she writes about. You don't get bored while reading it."

The general partner is the “Renaissance” Foundation. The collection of short stories "The Guilty Past of the Forest" is already available on the newmag.am and in bookstores.

Literary conversations continued with wine tasting. Every Wednesday during Newmag's Women Writers Month, the Common Ground Literary Café hosts wine tastings by female winemakers. This time it was the turn of the Indian winemaker YOG WINE.
