09/09/2024
On September 10, world-famous author Yuval Noah Harari's new book, Nexus, A Brief History of Information Networks from the Stone Age to AI”, will be published. On the same day, the Armenian version will also be released.
In “Nexus”, Harari once again scrutinizes the history of
mankind. This time, he explores how the flow of information has shaped us and
our world.
Harari brings together history's most significant examples and
major trends into one comprehensive study. This unique ability highlights the
critical importance of the book, especially at a time when we are all
contemplating the implications of artificial intelligence.
From the Stone Age to Christianity, from the campaign against
witches to Nazism and populism, the author of “Sapiens” presents an exclusive
study. In “Nexus”, Harari makes discoveries that are highly
relevant today. He examines how humanity, which has achieved so much in 100,000
years, now faces an existential crisis, enters an era of ecological collapse,
and how the creator of the information revolution started to be such a
self-destruct.
“We are creating new technologies like AI that can get out of
our control and enslave or destroy us.”
World-renowned writers, scientists, and diplomats have already
praised this exceptional work. For example, writer and actor Stephen Fry
commented on Harari's new book: “Tremendous, thought-provoking and so very
well reasoned. Harari gives us a vision of a rapidly approaching future that is
at one and the same time thrilling and chilling. If there is one book that I
would urge everyone to read – our political, corporate, and cultural leaders
most especially – it is Nexus”.
Yuval Noah Harari is one of the most significant contemporary
thinkers. He is known for being bold, unique, erudite, provocative, and
compelling. In this latest work, he redefines everything from literacy to AI,
fundamentally changing the way we think about the world, just as his previous
books have done.
On September 10, the publishing house will join the global
launch of the book with a presentation on Armenia TV. The general partner of “Nexus”
is Bookinist.
Pre-sales of the book have already started on the Newmag.am

Description
For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite allour discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. The world is on the verge of ecological collapse. Misinformation abounds. And we are rushing headlong into the age of AI—a new information network that threatens to annihilate us. For all that we have accomplished, why are we so self-destructive?
Nexus looks through the long lens of human history to consider how the flow of information has shaped us, and our world. Taking us from the Stone Age, through the canonization of the Bible, early modern witch-hunts, Stalinism, Nazism, and the resurgence of populism today, Yuval Noah Harari asks us to consider the complex relationship between information and truth, bureaucracy and mythology, wisdom and power. He explores how different societies and political systems throughout history have wielded information to achieve their goals, for good and ill. And he addresses the urgent choices we face as non-human intelligence threatens our very existence.
Information is not the raw material of truth; neither is it a mere weapon. Nexus explores the hopeful middle ground between these extremes, and in doing so, rediscovers our shared humanity.
