The author of international bestseller “The Silent Patient” comes back with another powerful thriller. Newmag presents a new psychological thriller from the author of #1 bestseller of New York Times. With this novel Michaelides is strengthening his positi

A deliciously dark, elegant, utterly compulsive read―with a mind-blowing twist. Only months after the international presentation of the book, Newmag Publishing House is among the first publishers to present Alex Michaelides’s second novel. The book presentation took place on July 16, in the scope of Newmag Summer Fest 2021. In his welcoming remarks for Newmag and Armenian readers, Michaelides mentioned:

The book involves the same themes as "The Silent Patient" - Greek mythology, psychology and murder. It’s about a mysterious and charismatic Greek tragedy professor and the Cambridge University. He is suspected of murdering his pupils, who are all members of the secret society known as “The Maidens”. I really hope you enjoy reading it. Thank you.

Alex Michaelides was born and raised in Cyprus. His father is Greek; mother is from England. Michaelides authored several scripts, but he has always wanted to write thrillers. I was constantly postponing it. In fact, my literary success was quite surprising for me. I was just following the voices in my head and writing them down.

He has an M.A. in English literature from Trinity College, Cambridge University. The events of his new thriller are developing in Cambridge. Michaelides wrote his second thriller in times of quarantine and lockdowns. That’s one of the reasons that helped the author to concentrate on the work. The first place that came to my mind was Cambridge. The University of Cambridge seems to be another world within our world. I had this woman Mariana in my head. She lost her husband and faced numerous challenges. I had the same feelings - solitude and isolation. That was the initial point of this thriller.

Alex Michaelides believes that “The Maidens” is a deep and emotional novel filled with unexpected events. He claims that the good ending of any book is essential for a successful literary piece. Writing is like having therapy. I have passages in this book where in my mind I was with the murderer. I would fall asleep thinking about the book, then wake up with new ideas and start writing.

“The Maidens” is available in our website newmag.am and in all the bookstores.
