Anna Starobinets

Anna Starobinets (born 1978) is a contemporary Russian writer, journalist, and screenwriter. She is called the “Queen of the Russian Underworld” for her dark fantasy thrillers and dystopias for adults. However, she is gentler with children: she writes funny fairy tales and detective stories for them. Her favorite children's project is the series “Beast Detective”, the action of which takes place in the Far Forest. Starobinets is a laureate and finalist of numerous Russian and European literary awards. In 2018, the European Science Fiction Society recognized her as the “Best Writer in Europe” (“Eurocon”). In 2021, she was awarded the Eduard Uspensky “Great Fairy Tale” Prize for the series “Beast Detective”. Starobinets’ books have been translated into almost all European languages, and have also been published in the USA, Japan, and other countries.
