Edmondo de Amicis
Edmondo de Amicis (1846-1908) was an Italian writer, journalist and poet. He studied at the Military Academy of Modena, served in the army and in his first works reflected on military life. Later he devoted himself entirely to literature, authoring short stories, novels, travelogues and essays. Public life, education and upbringing occupy an important place in his works. Amicis's most famous work is the novel "The Heart" (1886), which has been translated into more than two dozen languages and has become an important classic of world children's literature.
