In his youth, he worked as a security guard, then studied directing at the Otto Falkenberg School in Munich and shot music videos for hip-hop groups. He is now known as a theater and film director, playwright, and screenwriter. His works have won numerous prestigious awards, including the Bavarian Arts Prize in 2006. In 2008, his first feature film, Meine Mutter, mein Bruder und ich, was released; in 2010, he adapted Franz Wedekind's Spring Awakening for ZDF; and in 2012, Georg Büschner's Woyzeck.
