Saghatel Harutyunyan

Saghatel Harutyunyan (1921-2005) graduated from the Yerevan Pedagogical College, then the Pedagogical Institute. He worked as a teacher in the Ashtarak and Hoktemberyan regions. During the Great Patriotic War, he served in the Soviet Army. He worked in the editorial office of the “New Life” newspaper, then as an editor in the “Pioneer” magazine, and as the editor-in-chief of the “Literary Newspaper”. Since 1978, he has been the secretary of the board of the Writers’ Union of Armenia. Saghatel Harutyunyan’s plays “Only a Man Walks Straight” and “The Judge” were staged at the Yerevan Sundukyan Theater, and the children’s fairy tale-play “The Girl, Tsipili and Timbakan” was staged at the Yerevan Theater of Young Spectators. Translator, prose writer, playwright Harutyunyan’s works have also been staged abroad.
