The Francophone University Agency (AUF) - Sponsor of FrancoFest2024
09/30/2024
For the second time, FrancoFest2024 brings together lovers of Francophone literature and art and all French speakers. This year, the Francophone University Agency (Agence universitaire de la Francophonie /AUF) has become the sponsor of Francofest2024.
For the first time, Armenia will participate as one of the national juries for the most famous and prestigious French literary prize, the Goncourt. Ruzanna Ghaltaghchyan, the Armenian representative of the Francophone University Agency, highlights the importance of this initiative: "AUF continues to support the organization of the Goncourt Prize in a number of countries, and we are happy that this year we can extend our support to Armenia as well.
The initiative aims to spread Francophone literary culture, and as a university structure, we particularly value the involvement of students from our three member universities in the jury. This participation will allow them to familiarize themselves with modern Francophone literature and develop critical thinking skills. At the same time, students will deepen their knowledge of French by discovering the cultural diversity of the Francophone world."
The Francophone University Agency (AUF) is a global network of higher education and research institutions dedicated to promoting the involvement of the united French-speaking university community in the economic, social, and cultural development of societies. Founded in 1961, the agency now includes more than 1,000 higher education and scientific institutions operating in countries on five continents. It also serves as the Francophonie operator in the fields of higher education and science.
The Armenian office has been operating since 2008, and currently, AUF has seven member institutions in Armenia: the French University of Armenia, V. Brusov State University, Yerevan State University, National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, State Pedagogical University of Armenia, Armenian-Russian University, and the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems.
Ruzanna Ghaltaghchyan notes that French does not have a privileged status in Armenia, but there are long-standing traditions of French-speaking. "One of our main goals is to create ecosystems that facilitate the practical use of the language.
I am confident that Francofest will become an important platform for lovers of Francophone culture, uniting representatives from the fields of literature, art, and education. This will provide an opportunity to deepen cultural ties, generate new ideas, and promote cooperation, contributing to the development of the French-speaking community in Armenia. Such initiatives are vital for instilling Francophone values and promoting cultural dialogue in our country, which will help make Francophone culture more recognizable and strengthen its presence in Armenia."
