Two new books from the "Yeraz" series by the newmag publishing house, "The Shadow World" by Per Gustavsson and "Mru Mru and Berry" by Kaisa Happonen and Anne Vasko, were presented on Armenia TV’s Morning Show program.

The books were presented by newmag in collaboration with the "Paradigma" educational foundation. Both books are designed for children up to six years old. They also include special guidelines for parents to aid in the development of their child's mathematical, social-emotional, and language literacy skills.

Hasmik Kyureghyan, executive director of the "Paradigma" educational foundation, outlined the criteria used for selecting these books. "Works with illustrations that ranked highest in the best book category were chosen. The selection of children's books involves a comprehensive approach where images, colors, word count, and font size are carefully considered."

newmag publishing house has signed a memorandum with the "Paradigma" educational foundation to jointly select and publish children's books. Talin Saghdasaryan, head of educational programs at the foundation, mentioned that several years ago, a special study among 15-year-olds in Armenia, using international tests, revealed that 40% of teenagers of that age had functional illiteracy.

"These books aim to develop various literacies from an early age. There are several factors to consider when selecting books for children under six. The aesthetics and visuals of the story are crucial—the colors should be bright, and the images should be large."

"'The Shadow World' is suitable for children up to six years old. It appeals not only for its beautiful illustrations and engaging plot but also for the message it conveys. 'There is no concept of good and evil in either of the chosen books. For instance, 'The Shadow World' tells the story of Ragnar, a boy who fears shadows. When he receives a pencil as a gift and begins drawing on the shadows, he comes to understand them and overcomes his fear. In essence, the story is also educational."

You can purchase these books from the newmag publishing house's children's series on the website newmag.yeraz.am or at local bookstores.
