Newmag Publishing House presented its first cookbook, Kristine Grigoryan's
Anush Muradyan, the editor of "Traditional Dining Table: Aromas, Flavors, Memories from Gavar," shared her journey with the book, recounting her attempts at preparing breakfasts while editing, yet hesitating to tackle the main dish—Gavar's baklava.
"The author intertwines memories and stories with each dish, sharing stories of holidays and family traditions. Her evocative writing style resonates deeply with readers.
The dishes are well-known, they are traditional Armenian, but there are innovations in preparation. She achieved an unparalleled standard with Gavar's recipe. It's crucial to have an authentic recipe for making Gavar's baklava".
The book was also read by philologist Karine Panosyan. Karine got to know Kristine on social networks and saw how the author beautifully decorates and photographs the dishes she prepares.
The book captivated philologist Karine Panosyan, who initially connected with Kristine through social media. "Growing up in a family of cooks, I discovered new perspectives on every page," she remarked. "This book isn't just about recipes; it's a narrative of childhood, warmth, and familial bonds—a celebration of Armenian culture."
Published in three languages, the book incorporates legends and histories preceding each recipe, alongside beautiful imagery and heartfelt reminiscences. "Kristine's signature dishes, including vegetarian options, reflect her culinary passion," Karine added.
Kristine Grigoryan revealed her inspiration for compiling the book, recounting her journey from Armenia to the United States and her quest to preserve Armenian culinary heritage. "As a historian, I delved into extensive research, resurrecting forgotten family recipes and documenting them for posterity," she explained.
"I wanted to give these Armenian delicacies a definitive identity," Kristine continued. "Gavar's betel nut, gata, and sugar lokhum were at risk of being unrecognized as Armenian. It's vital to safeguard our culinary heritage from misconceptions."
Throughout the show, Kristine Grigoryan delighted viewers by preparing dishes straight from her cookbook, showcasing the richness and diversity of Armenian cuisine to a captivated audience.
