The official entry of the most famous and prestigious French literary award, Goncourt, into Armenia has commenced at the French Embassy in Armenia.
Goncourt's delegates and the head of the Newmag publishing house presented the establishment of the Armenian jury for this esteemed literary award.
According to French writer and philosopher Pascal Bruckner, a member of the Goncourt Prize jury, the award’s entry into Armenia is justified by the strong and friendly Armenian-French ties. He announced that Goncourt is coming to Armenia and will not go to Azerbaijan until the end of this century.
“Goncourt expands its geography. Goncourt's arrival in Armenia has symbolic and political importance for us. This is also a good opportunity to become acquainted with the literary tastes of other countries. Armenia is the 39th country to join the National Juries of the Goncourt Prize. I wish the Armenian Goncourt a long life."
Artak Aleksanyan, head of the Newmag publishing house, stated that the publishing house began translating French literature six years ago. "We have an army of brilliant translators, including Samvel Gasparyan, who has been a translator for 40 years and was Aznavour's first translator."
The Goncourt Prize is one of the world's four biggest literary awards. The head of the Newmag publishing house emphasized that Goncourt's entry is the biggest literary event of the last decade for the Armenian literary scene.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Armenia recalled the Francophonie summit held a few days ago, noting that it is symbolic to present Goncourt in Armenia today.
"This reaffirms Armenia's role as a francophone country and strengthens its position on the global map. This also proves that Goncourt is a living entity and is evolving. Thanks to Newmag for agreeing to share this adventure with us. Armenian students will join 8,000 other international students as members of the Armenian national jury."
After the press conference, the Goncourt delegates visited the ARARAT Museum with the head of Newmag, in pursuit of new, unforgettable, and warm impressions.
