Henrik Meinander is a professor at the University of Helsinki, a historian, and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He was the head of the Finnish Institute in Stockholm. His “A History of Finland” has been translated into 16 languages. Meinander considers it important to present complex scientific material simply.

According to him, professional journalists adapt materials related to various professions to the audience. If historians take their social responsibility seriously, they will do the same by "translating" new knowledge and making it more comprehensible. Meinander has his own opinion on the phenomenon of national history, which he talks about in the preface to his book “A History of Finland”.

A critical or deconstructive approach to the nation's past should not imply a rejection of national history, nor a disregard for historical processes or events previously considered significant for national rise and fall. For the Armenian translation, Henrik Meinander completed the preface and the last chapter of the book referring to the similarities between Armenia and Finland. "Our countries are far from each other, but we have some historical commonalities."

Both Finland and Armenia were parts of larger powers, striving to maintain their own culture, values and lifestyle, and through both braveness and fortune having received national sovereignty. Henrik Meinander is the author of 10 books about various events and figures in the history of Finland, the winner of many awards.
