Newmag Publishing House, in partnership with the Tovmasyan Foundation, presents a debut novel by David Georgyan: Impedance. The book will be showcased at the Winterfest 2026.
The story, inspired by true events, is set in 1956. By secret order, the top leadership of the USSR establishes an underground military laboratory in Armenia to produce nuclear weapons. Simultaneously, the US Central Intelligence Agency sends its agent, Adikhanyan, to Soviet Armenia as part of a large repatriation program.
Colonel Avakov, commander of the top-secret base, oversees the ideological side of the program, while Professor Anastasian, head of the scientific center, is tasked with launching the nuclear reactor. Against the backdrop of the Cold War, the novel explores the clash of superpowers, ideological pressure, scientific breakthroughs, and experiments attempting to penetrate parallel worlds, all culminating in a dramatic confrontation. Only decades later will the true cause of the “big bang” be revealed.
Blending human drama, mysticism, and esoteric elements, Impedance is a gripping science fiction action story that combines historical fact with imaginative speculation.
David Georgyan is a military doctor, specializing in intensive care and anesthesiology. Since 2020, he has served in the regions of Armenia and Artsakh and is currently pursuing a clinical residency at YSMU.
The novel was selected as the winner of the young writers’ competition organized by the Tovmasyan Foundation and Newmag, which attracted around fifty participants. The jury chose Impedance as the standout work. This marks the second literary award ceremony by the Foundation; the first honored writers from Artsakh.
The book presentation will take place on February 7, 18:00, at Dvin Music Hall, as part of Newmag Winterfest 2026. Admission is free, and the book will be available at a discounted price.
