Newmag Presents the First Book of 2025: Kamala Harris's "The Truths We Hold: An American Journey"
01/09/2025

One of the world’s most influential women shares her extraordinary life and career in an honest and inspiring memoir. Kamala Harris, the first female Vice President of the United States, reflects on her dreams, resilience, and commitment to justice in this remarkable book.
Described by the Los Angeles Times as “a life story that truly fascinates,” the book is now available in Armenian, published by Newmag. Harris's meteoric rise from prosecutor to one of the highest positions of power within a decade is as captivating as it is inspiring.
In “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey”, Harris candidly recounts her childhood in a struggling, dangerous neighborhood, her experiences with inequality as the daughter of immigrant parents, and her personal journey of rebuilding her life at 50 as a stepmother in a blended family.
Kamala Harris is a trailblazer in multiple ways. She is the first woman, the first African-American, and the first person of South Asian descent to serve as Vice President of the United States. Her mother was of Indian heritage, and her father was Jamaican. Prior to this historic role, she was the first woman and first African-American to serve as Attorney General of California and the first African-American senator from California.
Her political career began as the District Attorney of San Francisco. As both prosecutor and Attorney General, Harris championed efforts to combat human trafficking, protect consumer rights and address environmental crimes.
In 2020, Joe Biden selected Harris as his running mate, leading to their historic election victory. Known for her forthrightness and formidable debate skills, Harris has inspired millions through her political journey and advocacy.
Harris has authored two books. Her first, “The Truths We Hold”, published in 2019, traces her journey from a childhood shaped by civil rights activism to the pinnacle of political leadership. Her second book, “Superheroes Are Everywhere”, introduces children to the idea that heroes exist all around us and that everyone can make a difference in their community. Both works became bestsellers, offering a closer look at Harris as both a leader and a person.
“The Truths We Hold: An American Journey” is more than a memoir; it is a profound guide to navigating challenges, solving problems, and leading with integrity during times of crisis.
