01/14/2026
Prose writer, playwright and journalist Ruslan Saghabalyan meets with his readers on his birthday. On January 15, the writer will also tell about his new book. Within the framework of the Newmag & Friends project, the publishing house presents the author’s collection of stories “The City Freak”.
The book presentation will become not only a literary event, but also a warm meeting, during which stories about a person and a city will come to life. Ruslan Saghabalyan’s book is a collection of urban stories: about love and women, friendship and silent courage, patriotism without slogans, national traditions and everything that we really want to talk and think about.
This is a collection of prose works, which contains the best literary reviews of Ruslan Saghabalyan, his autobiographical work “Once” (“It Happens, It Doesn’t Happen”), and memoirs about famous and beloved people, those who left a mark on his memories and the city. The stories are filled with a vivid Yerevan spirit, with precise observations, and a sharp pen.
Ruslan Saghabalyan is a multi-genre creator. He has written prose, dramaturgy, science fiction works, as well as scripts for films, cartoons, and documentaries. He graduated from the Faculty of Russian Philology of Yerevan State University and the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors of the USSR State Cinema. He was the head of the Publicity and Art Department of the “Literaturnaya Armenia” magazine, the editor-in-chief of the Russian supplement of the “Aragast” newspaper, and a number of Moscow periodicals.
“My life passed between Yerevan and Moscow. I would not refuse the third city, the fourth, the fifth, but fate is capricious: who decides where and when a person will be born?”
Saghabalyan is a member of the Writers’ Union of Armenia and Moscow, the author of more than 2,000 publications. His works have been translated into 15 languages. The author has been awarded the “Grand Prix” prize of the Kiev International Film Festival, the medal of the Moscow Writers’ Union and the international “Golden Word” prize of the Media Union.
“My stories have been translated into 15 languages, some have been adapted for films and included in calendars and collections. I have won awards, sometimes international ones. I am the author of seven books and about 2,000 publications in the periodical press. Prose is a jealous mistress; it does not tolerate polygamy. But journalism fed me, and I found the golden mean for myself, which I called “literary journalism.”
A year ago, Newmag presented the author’s book “School of 7 Galaxies” in the “Dream” series. A year later, we also present Ruslan Saghabalyan’s Russian collection “Городской сумасшедший” in the Newmag & Friends program, which also became the basis for the ideological axis of the new book in Armenian.
On January 15, the writer’s birthday, a meeting and book presentation will take place at J Space. During the meeting, readers are expected to have a question and answer session with the author, book signings, and at the end of the event, a cake and wine reception.
