Journalist Tsovinar Barkhudaryan’s latest book offers a deeply personal account of the Armenian exodus from Artsakh. More than just a historical record, “The Last Red Lipstick” is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

For the first time since the tragic events of September 2023, Barkhudaryan shares her own story along with those of twelve Artsakh women. This poignant collection sheds light on the harrowing reality of forced displacement through firsthand experiences and memories.

A familiar face from Artsakh’s public television, Barkhudaryan has gathered testimonies that reveal the desperation of thousands forced to flee their homes within hours. The book recounts heart-wrenching moments when mothers disguised their sons as girls and gave them false identities to save their lives.

Beyond the dramatic escape, “The Last Red Lipstick” captures the months of hunger, fear, and uncertainty leading up to the exodus. It portrays the painful reality of leaving behind entire lives, carrying only a few bundles of clothing.

Yet, this book is not only about loss. It is a tribute to the unbreakable dignity and resistance of the Artsakh people. Each story is a reminder that even in the darkest times, the spirit endures.

Published by Newmag, the book is supported by the “Amrots” Foundation for the Development of National Values.

Now a commentator for the Haylur news program, Barkhudaryan uses her book to give voice to those who lost everything—except their stories. “The Last Red Lipstick” stands as a living testament to a people who may have lost their homeland but never their dignity.

The book presentation will take place at Newmag Winter Fest 2025, on February 16, at 6:00 PM, at Dvin Music Hall. Admission is free.
