07/18/2024
Newmag and the Hrant Dink Foundation jointly present another book, compiling analyses and articles from the renowned Armenian. The collection is available in bookstores and the newmag.am website.
What was Dink thinking and talking about? Articles that remain relevant
today, issues unresolved to this day. Newmag and the Hrant Dink Foundation
present the observations, beliefs, analyses, and political thoughts of Turkey's
most famous Armenian in the book "Your Man of This Column." You can
read over a hundred articles published in "Akos," "Yeni Binyıl,"
and "Birgün" newspapers from 1996 to 2007 in this compilation.
The Hrant Dink Foundation was established after the 2007 tragedy to prevent
similar incidents, realize Hrant Dink's dreams for a fairer and freer world,
and embody his words and spirit.
In his book, Dink discusses the world, the West, the Diaspora, the
Armenian-Turkish issue, the Armenian community in Turkey, national minorities,
the Kurdish question, and even touches on the contentious issue of wearing
headscarves. These writings reflect a clarity that comes not from a position of
majority, power, or dominance, but from a perspective of minority,
vulnerability, and opposition.
Hrant Dink's selection of articles spans eleven years (1996-2007). These articles were penned during a historical period that began with the optimism of a new post-Cold War world order and culminated in the clash between the old guard and the emerging generation of Turkish politicians.
During this historical juncture, Hrant Dink undertook what had never been done before. As an Armenian in Turkey, he asserted his right to vote and claimed his place in Turkey's public life.
He was regarded as the conscience of Turkey. The investigation into Dink's murder case continues to this day, symbolizing the broader struggle for justice in Turkey. He was a unique thinker. Freed from institutional constraints, Hrant Dink enjoyed a freedom that many could not attain.
