Newmag Publishing House unveiled Kamala Harris’s memoir, “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey”, during a special feature on the “Good Morning” program of Armenia TV. The book, written by the first female Vice President of the United States and one of the most influential women in the world, is a powerful testament to leadership, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams.
Translator Astghik Sargsyan shared her insights, noting that the memoir serves as a profound source of inspiration, especially for women.
“The book illustrates the struggles women face in every society. Kamala has risen through the ranks—from prosecutor to senator, to vice president—while balancing her personal life, including a second marriage at fifty. She is undoubtedly one of the most influential women globally. The memoir reveals how she rose from working at McDonald's to holding one of the nation’s highest offices.”
Throughout her career, Harris has championed the rights of ordinary Americans, recovering millions of dollars from banks and corporations. Her efforts have made the United States a fairer place for many.
In her book, Harris recounts her childhood, her journey to achieve her dreams, and her remarkable political and legal career. David Sargsyan, editor and translator for the Armagora platform, highlights Harris's groundbreaking trajectory.
“There’s a tradition in politics that when you reach the second-highest office but not the presidency, it often signals the end of a career. Kamala Harris didn’t become president and lacks the widespread charisma within the Democratic Party to win the top position. Nevertheless, her career is a shining example of the American dream. As a woman of color from an immigrant family, she has overcome significant barriers and brought about meaningful change. The book offers valuable insights into how political careers are built in the U.S.”
While Harris ran against Donald Trump for the presidency last year, she was unsuccessful. Scholar Suren Sargsyan weighed in on the implications of her political journey.
“Bill Clinton once remarked that America isn’t ready for a female president—a sentiment echoed after his wife Hillary’s loss. However, I disagree that Harris’s career is over. She’s proven her ability to recover from setbacks. She lost to Biden but became his vice president. It’s likely she could return to California and continue her political journey as governor.”
Kamala Harris’s “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey” is a candid reflection on overcoming challenges, achieving justice, and navigating a complex political landscape. The book is now available on newmag.am and in bookstores.
