Newmag presented Gor Karapetyan's latest book, "The Proactive Leader," during the Morning Show on Armenia TV. VTB Armenia Bank, serving as the book's general partner, joined the author for a discussion on this insightful guide to personal growth.
Newmag presents the book "Proactive Leader" by Gor Karapetyan. The TV presentation of the book took place during the Morning Show of Armenia TV. Young businessman Varuzhan Babakhanyan presented why beginners and even established businessmen; and creative people should read this book.
"Everyone wants to be a leader, and for that, you need to be educated. This book is about that. The leader is first a caring, educated person. A person who leads his team, not by orders, but by example. Shows how to dream, and how to achieve the dream. Gor says that every employee should know his/her goal. There are many practical steps in the book, there is even an example of how to realize the "Armenian dream". There are examples of different people that show specific individuals, specific situations, how to be a leader, how to achieve success."
The general partner of "The Proactive Leader" is VTB-Armenia Bank. Nare Tadevosyan, VTB-Armenia Bank Marketing, and Public Relations Head, and Gayane Harutyunyan, Public Relations Manager explained why the bank decided to support the publication of the book. Nare Tadevosyan believes that publishing Armenian writers, Armenian language literature and business literature is very important for us. "Leaders are born, but we can develop skills, and get acquainted with other experiences and examples. It is very trendy now, many people are writing books about their leadership, but there was very little Armenian language literature on that topic."
Gayane Harutyunyan noted that this marks the second collaboration between VTB-Armenia Bank and Newmag. The first was Saghatel Harutyunyan's "Tsipili, Timbaka and Laughter" book. "This time we targeted the support of business literature. The spread and development of Armenian language literature are important, that's why we attach great importance to cooperation with Newmag, offering socio-economic, psychological, business and children's literature to the reader. Business literature is of great importance now when you need to acquire new knowledge or acquire new skills on a familiar topic”.
Gayane Harutyunyan and Nare Tadevosyan also talked about being a good leader. "A good modern leader must be sincere, honest, proactive, improve the management system and models he has implemented, and be interested in improving his/her team's knowledge. The leader must also be a dreamer so that the team follows him/her, be innovative and flexible."
The author of the book noticed that he got a lot of energy from the Newmag Winter Fest and the book presentation, which he is already capitalizing on. Gor Karapetyan experienced his leadership skills in the army. "It took me three months for my two platoons to synchronize and serve well and efficiently”. Gor Karapetyan believes that enthusiastic leaders are born, but effective leaders are made. “My friend says that we are self-made leaders. In any case, they also become leaders. I do different things at the same time."
Gor Karapetyan read the preface of the book, which begins with a parable. In the preface, he presented why he wrote this book about leadership. "There should be a three-layered approach: awareness, responsibility, determination. If you translate this book into another language, it will not work, because it is about the Armenian reality, the examples are Armenian, they are from our environment, and they are about the people who live next to us. I tell in the book how to choose a profession, how to manage time."
Gor Karapetyan also spoke about his team. "If it is a big factory, there are many risks, and maintaining horizontal relations is difficult. But in an IT or marketing company, that format will work. We need to get rid of the "infallible boss" complex. When the leader, the manager demonstrates his/her vulnerability, it increases the motivation of the team. I think a lot about the "Armenian miracle", many countries experienced dramatic development in economic and other fields after difficult situations. Now it is a similar situation for our country. We must also find our "Armenian miracle" and realize it."
