Minas Lurian

Minas Lurian is the director of the “Center for the Study and Documentation of Armenian Culture” in Venice. He was born in Beirut, Lebanon, where he began his musical career, and continued his studies in Venice in 1980. Since 1987, he has worked at Veneto Musica and other musical associations, institutions, and international festivals dedicated to early and contemporary classical and jazz music, where he has been a founder or director. The studio, founded by Lurian in 1991, has created an audio archive of the complete liturgical year of the Armenian Church and the repertoire of hymns, which have been preserved since the beginning of the 18th century in the tradition of the Mekhitarist Order of St. Lazarus. Lurian also served as the president of the community representative board of the Armenian Union of Italy from 2016 to 2019. In 2024, at the request of the UTOPIA publishing house in Milan, I translated Shushan Avagian's experimental novel "Untitled Book" from Eastern Armenian into Italian, which received exclusive, extensive reviews from the literary sections or supplements of nearly thirty major newspapers in Italy. Currently, I have almost completed the translation from Italian of Grigor Beldian's Armenian Futurism, I have completed Marc Nishanian's Perversion historiographique from French to Italian, and I have almost finished Giorgio Agamben's The Language That Remains from Italian to Armenian (this one edited by Marc Nishanian).
