
Bessel van der Kolk
Bessel van der Kolk (born 1943) is a Dutch psychiatrist. He received his MD from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago in 1970. He completed his psychiatric residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1974. Van der Kolk has focused his professional work on the study of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He has worked with Vietnam War veterans. Kolk founded the Trauma Center in Brooklyn in 1982, where he has conducted numerous educational programs and clinical trials. He is a former president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and co-director of the National Network for Pediatric Traumatic Stress. Dr. van der Kolk is currently a professor of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine. His book "The Body Remembers Everything" became a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into 43 languages.
