Titled “Arno Babadjanian: An Armenian Beat in Soviet Times”, this groundbreaking work is authored by violinist, scholar, and pedagogue Nuné Melikian. The book offers an intimate exploration of Babadjanian’s life and music, enriched with archival materials, personal letters, and professional analyses.
Nuné Melikian is an acclaimed violinist and the youngest student to complete a master’s program at the University of Montreal. She is also the first Armenian violinist to perform at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. Her doctoral dissertation at McGill University serves as the foundation for this book, making it the first comprehensive study of Babadjanian’s life and artistry available in English.
Babadjanian’s music, a fusion of traditional Armenian melodies, modern jazz rhythms, and classical influences, epitomizes an era and offers a profound cultural legacy. To celebrate the publication of “Arno Babadjanian: An Armenian Beat in Soviet Times”, Nuné Melikian will visit Armenia. The official presentation will take place on December 5 at 18:00 at the Zangak bookstore, with free admission.
As part of the launch campaign, the TV presentation of the book will take place on December 4 during the “Good Morning” program of Armenia TV. The author will also present her work at various professional and educational institutions, fostering greater appreciation for Babadjanian’s enduring impact on music and culture.
