One year ago, Newmag Publishing House launched its landmark Book Donation program. This time, with the support of the “Renaissance” Foundation, 500 modern and diverse books were donated to the “Aparan Zarzand Daryan Library” NGO.

With this donation, the library’s collection was enriched with fiction and non-fiction, children’s literature, professional and leisure reading—all carefully selected to meet the needs of different age groups and interests.

Gagik Khachatryan, Head of the Department of Education, Culture, Sports, Youth and Social Affairs of the Aparan Municipality, expressed gratitude to Newmag and the “Renaissance” Foundation for bringing high-quality literature to the community:

“Newmag is doing remarkable work by translating and publishing world-renowned literature in Armenian. I encourage all residents of Aparan to explore these books and discover stories that speak to their hearts and minds.”

Newmag Director Artak Aleksanyan noted that the Book Donation program relies on different benefactors each time. The sponsor of the Aparan initiative is the “Renaissance” Foundation, represented by its founder Artur Janibekyan—who is originally from Aparan:

“That’s why Mr. Janibekyan wanted these books to reach his hometown. We curated a thoughtful selection of titles that will be truly valuable to readers of all ages and backgrounds.”

Anahit Mnatsakanyan, Director of the Zarzand Daryan Library, emphasized the vital importance of the donation:

“Although we add new books each year, it's not always enough to attract new readers. This partnership with Newmag and the Renaissance Foundation helps us meet the modern needs of our community. Books are one of the key pillars of civilization, and libraries must reflect the changing times.”

Editor-in-Chief of Newmag, Gnel Nalbandyan, added that the lack of reading is deeply connected to wider issues in society:

“Much of what we face today—the distortion of facts, misunderstanding of history, or even the rewriting of our civilization—stems from a failure to read and comprehend. That’s why it's so important to read, to ask librarians for guidance, and to engage with quality literature. These books are expensive and not easily accessible for many, but through libraries, they are now within reach for regional readers.”

With this donation, the Aparan community now has greater access to contemporary Armenian and international literature—an important step toward promoting education, culture, and critical thinking.
