Newmag's FrancoFest2024 will take place on Translators' Day, October 12, at the Congress Hotel. The festival will begin in the afternoon and continue until late evening. All Newmag books will be sold at discounts of up to 40% at the festival. Entrance is free.

During the Morning Show on Armenia TV, the publishing house and festival partners discussed the Francophone Book and Art Festival. Ani Hakobyan, head of literary programs at Newmag, presented five French-language books that will be presented at the festival, including two memoirs about Charles Aznavour and the French national hero Missak Manouchian, as well as two best-selling books by renowned modern French authors Amélie Nothomb and Agnès Martin-Lugand. Additionally, the publishing house will showcase Goncourt Prize winner Mohamed Mbougar Sarr's intellectual detective novel, "The Most Secret Memory of Men".

Laert Vagharshyan's documentary "Today is a Sunny Day", about Missak Manouchian, will also be shown. This film was screened once during the Soviet era before being banned. Ani Hakobyan also presented the concert programs.

"The festival will start with the beautiful melodies of the Komitas Quartet, followed by an evening of original songs by Lilit Bleyan. It will conclude with the Aznavour melodies performed by the string quintet of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, and there will also be an evening of songs by Ulysse Manhes, a singer of original songs who has traveled from France for this special festival."

Gnel Nalbandyan, editor-in-chief of Newmag, highlighted the main event of the festival: the official introduction of the most prestigious French literary prize, the Goncourt, to Armenia.

"More than forty countries are represented on the map of the National Jury. The French Institute, the UFAR, and Newmag have worked together to position Armenia not just as a consumer in the Francophone community but also as a contributor to its perspective. Eight of the twelve contenders' books will reach Armenia, where students will read, discuss, and evaluate them. It is important for the Goncourt Prize that university students select significant and engaging contemporary literature. Goncourt is a literary brand, and local writers can achieve classic status thanks to this award. This event signifies that tomorrow’s leaders and business representatives will uphold the values of French liberal arts and literature."

Ruzanna Ghaltaghchyan, the Armenian representative of the Francophonie University Agency, a sponsor of the festival, noted that the Goncourt Prize is a significant event for the Francophone world. From now on, Armenia will also have its own National Jury.

"Our organization has supported the establishment of National Juries in various countries. The members of the national jury will consist of Francophone students. Thirty students from the UFAR, YSU, and Brusov University will serve on the Armenian jury. These students will choose their own Goncourt laureate, which may differ from the selection made by the Académie Goncourt."

The general sponsor of the festival is Acba Leasing, which also supported FrancoFest last year. Vahagn Shmavonyan, head of supplier cooperation at Acba Leasing, stated that the company was the first to offer leasing products and currently holds 50% of the market share.

"Since its foundation, Acba Leasing has been a leader in the leasing market. Over the years, we have contributed not only to the development of Armenia's economy but also to cultural and educational programs. That is why we are participating in the FrancoFest festival for the second time, this year as the general sponsor."

Anna Grigoryan, the chief specialist in supplier cooperation at Acba Leasing, emphasized the importance of publishing Charles Aznavour's unique interviews and photographs at the festival. "Life Through Charles's Eyes" offers another opportunity to present Charles Aznavour's legacy to today's readers, providing a deeper understanding of the chansonnier's worldview.

Discover the world of Francophone contemporary art with us on October 12, from noon to 9:00 p.m., at the Congress Hotel.
