Newmag Summerfest to Feature Paul McCartney’s “Hey Grandude!” (Trailer)
06/09/2025
On the second day of Newmag Summerfest 2025, June 22, the festival will host the presentation of “Hey Grandude!”, a delightful picture book by legendary Beatle Paul McCartney, illustrated by Kathryn Durst. This magical adventure will enchant both children and parents with its whimsical story and vivid illustrations.
“Hey Grandude!” marks a new chapter in Paul McCartney’s creative legacy. Inspired by his own eight grandchildren, the story introduces readers to an eccentric, fun-loving grandfather with a magical compass that whisks him and his four grandchildren off on wild adventures around the world.
The book’s title was born from a real-life moment:
“One of my grandkids used to call me ‘Grandad,’ but one day he said ‘Grandude’ instead. Then the others started calling me that too,” McCartney shared in a BBC interview. The title also echoes McCartney’s iconic 1968 song “Hey Jude.”
Describing the character, McCartney said:
“I imagined him as an adventurous old man, a bit of a retired hippie. He wears a little hat and has a magic compass that can take him anywhere.” From surfing on stampeding horses to riding flying fish and sliding down snowy mountains, Grandude leads his “chillers” (grandkids) on unforgettable journeys, always returning just in time for bedtime.
The Sun called the book “a charming story written by a music legend, with wonderful illustrations that will delight both adults and children.” OK! Magazine wrote that it “is sure to take pride of place on any child’s bookshelf.”
The Armenian edition was translated by Seda Hamazaspyan.
Join us on June 22 at Newmag Summerfest 2025 in Yeraz Park for the presentation of “Hey Grandude!”, followed by a special performance by the Ayb School’s rock band Battle of Evermore, who will play hits by The Beatles in celebration of McCartney’s timeless creativity.
