David Georgyan’s “Impedance” Makes Its TV Presentation on Armenia TV
02/27/2026
The TV premiere of Impedance by writer David Georgyan took place on the Bari Luys program of Armenia TV.
The book was published by Newmag Publishing House following Georgyan’s victory in the “Young Writers” competition organized jointly by Newmag and the Tovmasyan Foundation.
During the TV premiere, the author spoke about how he decided to participate in the competition. He noted that it was his friend Ara Zargaryan who encouraged him to apply.
“I participated in the competition on my friend’s advice. If I hadn’t applied, the book would probably never have been published,” Georgyan said.
Impedance is described as an esoteric thriller with mystical elements. According to the author, people from scientific fields are usually less interested in esoteric themes, but his research showed the opposite.
He also mentioned that archival materials from the Soviet period contain references to various esoteric studies. Since religious practices were restricted during the Soviet era, people sometimes sought spiritual expression through alternative forms.
Explaining the title of the book, Georgyan said that “Impedance” is derived from a Latin word meaning resistance. He chose this name because the novel explores the idea of resistance in different forms — in interpersonal relations, between large powers, and within personal conflicts.
The writer also shared that the idea for one of the storylines came after seeing a document on social media about the possible establishment of a nuclear weapons laboratory in Soviet-era Armenia. The document, attributed to the Central Intelligence Agency, stated that the United States had sent an agent to gather information about a military base in Armenia. This inspired Georgyan to write about the history of a nuclear research facility in Soviet Armenia.
