The next meeting in the series “Publishers Advise: Book News” was held at the National Library of Armenia. This time, the guest of the initiative was Newmag Publishing House.

Newmag presented its new publications, upcoming programs, and the publishing house’s most popular books to librarians. The presentation was delivered by Ani Hakobyan, head of Newmag’s literary programs.

“We highly value this initiative of the National Library. It provides an opportunity to establish direct contact with librarians and present the latest developments in the modern publishing field. Close cooperation with community libraries is especially important for us. Two years ago, Newmag launched a project to replenish regional community libraries with new titles, and we hope to implement a similar program in Yerevan’s community libraries with the support of partners,” said Hakobyan.

During the meeting, librarians became acquainted with Newmag’s various book series and publishing directions. Among contemporary American literature, particular interest was shown in Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking and Jonathan Franzen’s Crossroads, which have already attracted wide reader interest.

Newmag continues to introduce contemporary European literature to Armenian readers. The novels of Elena Ferrante are among the particularly popular titles in this series.

The publishing house also actively develops Armenian translations of Francophone literature, making works from the French-speaking world accessible to local readers. Publications about the life and work of Charles Aznavour remain among Newmag’s most demanded books.

Special attention was given to the non-fiction segment. Newmag publishes Armenian-language books on self-development, business, psychology, social issues, as well as memoirs and biographies of prominent figures. In recent years, the publishing house has also expanded its sports literature catalogue, presenting the life stories and achievements of world-famous athletes.

Hakobyan particularly highlighted the “Dream” children’s book series, which is designed for young readers and combines illustrated, educational, and engaging stories that help children discover the world of books.

“Newmag’s mission is to create modern and in-demand content for Armenian readers. We also pay great attention to improving the quality of translated literature, striving to present the best world authors in Armenian with high editorial and translation standards.”

During the meeting, librarians had the opportunity to review new books, discuss possibilities for replenishing library collections, track changing reader interests, and explore new formats of cooperation between publishers and libraries.
