The novel "Point Zero" delves into the history of deadly terrorism driven by religious fanaticism across various epochs of human history. According to the author, terrorism transcends national and religious boundaries. Throughout history, powerful entities have exploited faith to bolster their authority and enhance their influence. In the book, Narek Malyan skillfully draws parallels between historical events in the Christian and Muslim realms.
The novel "Point Zero" intricately weaves several pivotal moments around its core theme, ultimately converging at its most significant zero point. Written by a political prisoner, the book opens and closes with a solemn liturgy, serving as a poignant attempt to juxtapose the contemporary world with the religious fanaticism of medieval times.
In the late 11th century, Pope Urban II launched the first crusades, while Hassan Ibn Sabbah established the first school of religious martyrs. By juxtaposing these historical events from both the Christian and Muslim worlds, the novel culminates with one of the most devastating terrorist attacks in modern-day Paris.
Narek Malyan was born in the family of a priest. He spent most of his childhood in St. Geghard Monastery, which played a decisive role in forming his worldview. After graduating from the Monte Melkonyan Military Academy, in 2001 he received a master's degree in the field of international law, and in 2015 in the field of public administration. He was an adviser to the chief of the RA police. In 2016-2019, he lectured on the subjects "PR and Communication Ethics" at the Police Educational Complex and "Strategic PR" at the Sociology Department of YSU.
