The TV presentation of "One of Us Is Next" by Karen McManus
07/26/2024
The presentation of One of Us Is Next by Karen McManus took place on the Morning Show of Armenia TV. The partner of the book is the "Zangak" bookstore.
Newmag Publishing House presented the first part of the trilogy last year,
and this book is the second installment. Screenwriter and director Tigran
Nalchajyan introduced the thriller during the TV presentation.
According to Tigran Nalchajyan, the book is a detective story set in a high
school, where the psychology of teenagers and their relationships play a
crucial role.
"I encourage our young people to read this book. I perceive it not
just as a story about teenagers and murder, but as a youth drama."
Nalchajyan believes that One of Us Is Next will resonate with high
school students. The book features gadgets and social networks, reflecting how
the Internet has transformed not only relationships but also the psychology of
teenagers.
"The book is part of a trilogy, so it would be beneficial if you
have already read the first one, as the characters are the same. It’s like
watching a TV series. There is also a TV adaptation of the book, but I haven’t
watched it yet. I think it’s better to read the book first and then watch the
series. Books create images and broaden horizons."
Margarit Sargsyan, the editor of the Armenian edition, believes that the
book appeals not only to young people but has also generated significant
interest among the older generation.
"The characters are intriguing, with unique perspectives and
attitudes. The plot revolves around the investigation of a murder. However, it
also explores how seemingly minor and trivial actions can lead to significant
and irreversible consequences. This is one of those books that is easy to read,
enhances reading skills, and can help young people who aren’t avid readers to
develop a love for reading."
The editor notes that while the events are set in the United States and the
characters are American teenagers, the psychological issues and feelings of
isolation are universally relatable. The book continues with characters from
the previous volume, who have now faced another tragic murder and matured as a
result.
"The book includes many engaging stories about relationships between
mothers and daughters, mothers and sons, sisters and friends, as well as love
relationships, family issues, and traumas. In this way, it can help readers
draw parallels with their own lives and learn valuable lessons."
