"Oracle" Armenian-Russian book series presents Narine Abgaryan’s "Three Apples Fell from the Sky" novel (book trailer)
Narine Abgaryan’s “Three Apples Fell from the Sky” book is ready with a new cover, re-edited, and proofread. This is the first project of the Oracle Armenian-Russian book series in the scope of a partnership between Newmag and Oracle publishing houses. The “Three Apples Fell from the Sky” was published in 2015. It was translated into more than 15 languages.
Naira Khachatryan, the translator of the book, believes that the story represented in the book is magical realism. She claims that the novel is written through the prism of imagination.
“This book has become so close to my heart. Everything described in the book is filled with love. Love toward nature, village, its residents, love toward the history of the country. It is love from top to bottom. Love, that has witnessed hardships and challenges. Love is born even in complete emptiness.”
The book translator assures that while reading the book it is possible to feel how deeply Narine Abgaryan loves her village. Even foreign readers of the book decide to come to Armenia, visit Berd, and search for the places that Narine has described in her book. They discover the characters, the features of the novel, its taste, and smell. Hayarpi Khachatryan, the editor of the “Three Apples Fell from the Sky” book, believes that Narine Abgaryan transforms the Armenian energy and spirit into each and every reader.
“The story is presented with symbols. There are no age restrictions for this book. If a child decides to read it, he/she will appear in the magical world of fairytales. In reality, the story is about Armenia - a country of bright characters and scenes. She is not making up anything. You, as a reader, start to believe in a miracle, just as Narine believes. This belief is gradually transformed from her to the reader, and at the end of the story you witness the miracle.”
The illustrations of the book are designed by Sona Abgaryan. They represent the magical world of this realistic fairytale and transmit the sceneries of the book through images. “Of course, my illustrations were created based on the storyline. I was reading the book part by part and reproducing it in my illustrations. The book was the moving force for me, but I also had discussions with Narine.”
Drought, famine, and even an earthquake: this is the beginning of the story, but the end of it is completely different. The ending is about a miracle. British novelist Mary Chamberlain once described the “Three Apples Fell from the Sky” book as a tender and unique story about endurance and love.

As they go about their daily lives – harvesting crops, making baklava, tidying houses – the villagers sustain one another through good times and bad. But sometimes all it takes is a spark of romance to turn life on its head, and a plot to bring two of Maran's most stubbornly single residents together soon gives the village something new to gossip about...
