May begins with books: The 5th Yeraz Children’s Festival will take place this Sunday (video)
05/01/2026
Newmag Publishing House and Yeraz Projects invite children, parents, and educators to the 5th Yeraz Children’s Festival this Sunday, May 3, at 2:00 PM, at Yeraz Park.
Every year, ahead of the summer holidays, Newmag publishes new children’s and parenting books to make summer reading more enjoyable, meaningful, and inspiring.
Guests of the “Good Morning” program were Gohar Manukyan, Head of Newmag’s “Dream” book series, and Nare Harutyunyan, representative of Yeraz Projects, who spoke about the festival and this year’s program.
Gohar Manukyan recalled how the initiative began:
“Three years ago, together with Yeraz Projects, we launched the Yeraz children’s book series. Twice a year, in spring and autumn, we celebrate the birth of new children’s books together with young readers and their parents.”
This year marks the fifth edition of the festival. According to Manukyan, organizing it before the holidays helps parents and teachers choose meaningful reading for children during the summer months. A colorful program awaits visitors, including music, interactive games, performances, and presentations of five new books.
One of the festival’s special guests is Rasa Bugavičute-Pēce, who will arrive in Armenia from Latvia to meet readers and present her novel “The Boy Who Sees in the Dark”.
“This is a book about empathy and compassion. We are very happy that the author will spend almost a week in Armenia, meeting readers in schools and participating in festival discussions.”
Gohar Manukyan also introduced the festival’s five featured books, including a parenting guide:
“We carefully select books by following international publishing trends, visiting festivals, reading extensively, and considering the interests and realities of Armenian children. Parenting books are especially important because raising children is not only the responsibility of schools or kindergartens, but also of families.”
Nare Harutyunyan explained why Yeraz Projects supports children’s publishing:
“We live in a highly consumer-driven world, and it is important that children not only consume content, but also read, think, and imagine. Books help shape dreams and values.”
She also shared how reading became an important part of her own life:
“I first started reading books based on films I loved. My mother told me that books reveal much more about characters and worlds. That’s how reading became something I truly loved.”
According to Nare, children should never be forced to read. Instead, adults should help them discover genres and stories they genuinely enjoy.
The Yeraz festival aims to create exactly that kind of atmosphere: warm, inspiring, and filled with discovery.

An academic year, which seems infinitely long, but ends in an instant, with summer vacation. What would happen if every student kept a school diary and wrote down their ordinary, sometimes extraordinary stories every day? The novel “The Heart” is just such a diary story. Schoolboy Enrico learns to read and write, and in his diary he tells about the most important values of life: friendship, family, homeland, love, losses and small victories. Amicis reminds us that life’s lessons are often not in textbooks, but in school corridors, on the road with friends, in the words of teachers and parents.
The “Dream” series presents a world classic novel, for the first time in a complete Armenian translation and supplemented edition.
The book is intended for readers 12+.

The famous saying “Like attracts like” perfectly describes Brioche and Tartine. They have the same sense of humor and the same innate “grace” for doing stupid things. The two dogs discuss “serious” topics, for example, do goats have teeth? Then they argue fiercely and put common sense to the test. At first glance, Tartine seems more intelligent than Brioche. The “hero” of his jokes and funny games is his friend. A colorful and funny comic for young readers.
Intended for children under 6 years old

Life in the distant forest cannot be called calm: not a single day goes by without crime, persecution, suspicion and beastly intrigues. In “The Beast Detective”, the investigation is conducted by the elderly and experienced investigator Avag Porsugh and his cunning and resourceful assistant Porsukatun.
All the heroes of the book are animals, but they are able to love and hate, lie and tell the truth to a straight face, trust and despair, betray and save no less than we, our “human” readers. “The Wolf’s Den” is the first book in Anna Starobinets’ “The Beast Detective” series. A murder has occurred in the distant forest. Who is a friend, who is an enemy, who is the innocent fluffy victim, and who is the predator. According to the rules of the genre, the criminal is not known until the last page.
