The novel centers on a peculiar “little man” living in a small town in Latvia. He barely communicates with other people. The entire novel is written as a text that replaces the lack of communication. At first, the hero, Oscar, writes down his thoughts in a notebook to communicate with the local pastor, and then as a diary. Everything changes when an unknown beauty appears in Oscar’s life. The hero begins to take steps that previously seemed insurmountable to him.
