Personal Exhibition and Book Presentation: Edik Poghosyan Presented Two Major Events on the “Good Morning” Program (Video)

The artist explained that the title Permanent comes from the English grammatical term “present perfect,” which reflects a completed action connected to the present.

“Grammatically, it refers to the past perfect — in other words, this exhibition represents the culmination of the path I’ve traveled. That’s how the title Permanent was born. Years ago, I realized that many of my friends didn’t actually know what I do or what journey I’ve taken.”

Two years ago, Poghosyan began collecting and archiving his creative work from the past three decades — a process he describes as both nostalgic and illuminating.

“I realized how important archiving is. I even rediscovered works that had been forgotten on old floppy disks. My professional activity spans many genres — I’m a painter, a graphic designer, I’ve done political and social satire. Since moving to Armenia, I’ve also illustrated children’s books, designed book covers, and created theater posters for the Sundukyan Theater.”

Poghosyan’s art reflects the fusion of Iranian and Armenian cultures.

“I moved to Armenia from Iran 18 years ago. When I arrived, I understood the kind of culture I come from — and how deeply Iranian culture has influenced my work. I’ve always loved being between disciplines — text, image, poetry.”

For the artist, Permanent is both a creative and reflective milestone. As part of the exhibition program, on October 4, a special discussion will also take place to mark the republication of his book “Diary of a Waiting Man.”

Originally published in 2015, Diary of a Waiting Man is an anthology of contemporary Iranian poetry, translated into Armenian by Edik Poghosyan. Ten years later, the collection is being reissued within the Newmag & Friends series.

“I’ve always loved translation. After moving to Armenia, I realized how hard it is to connect with a society with which you share no memories. That’s how I began taking photographs, posting them on Facebook, and translating short poems. Gradually, I gained readers and friends. I then decided to publish those translations — in a limited edition of 365 + 1 copies, corresponding to the days of a leap year. The structure was inspired by the Divan of the Persian poet Hafez, whose book people open at random to find a daily poem or message of fortune.”

The new edition of Diary of a Waiting Man has been revised, expanded, and edited. It now also includes works by the Persian writer and Iranian-Armenian author Vahe Armen, absent from the original release.

Edik Poghosyan’s personal exhibition opens on September 30 at 7:00 PM at the Henrik Igityan National Center for Aesthetics and will run from October 1–8, 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
