In 2021, Newmag published the first part of Narine Abgaryan's book "Manyunya". The Armenian translation with a unique cover, equivalent to her language and original style, immediately received a wide response among the readers. In 2010 she published her f
Narine Abgaryan has been living and working in Moscow since 1993, writing about her native Berd. Born in Tavush, Abgaryan's first literary experience was "Manyunya '' in 2010. The writer decided to simply write about herself, her childhood, family, neighbors and the warmest memories. The publisher read the book and clearly decided to publish it. Moreover, all three parts of the book had the same success. In one of her interviews Abgaryan answers why she decided to write and tell about her childhood memories. “The childhood of my generation ended because of the earthquake and war. So childhood is the only time I would love to go back. That's why I started writing about those years.”
"Manyunya" is Narine Abgaryan's literary “business card”. In 2013 she received the "BABY-NOS" award for her contribution to children's literature. In the first two years after the publication of the three-part book, 200,000 copies were sold, translated, and published in other languages. The characters of honest and sincere stories became close and beloved by the readers. “There are many different perceptions of the book. Sometimes they write things about me, analyze my characters from such a point of view that I am stunned. They think I'm a genius, but I've never had that thought.”
The autobiographical novel was so successful that Abgaryan had to write two other volumes of the book. In 2011, the second book was published: "Manyunya writes a Fantastic Novel". Abgaryan's characters, Narine and Manyunya, have already become mature girls who, for the first time, go to a performance, a concert, a club, a pioneer camp, they already talk about their feelings, but most importantly, their adventures and fun are still with them. Moreover, the adventures of Narine's sister Gayane are added to the entertainment.
Along with children's adventures and warm stories, the writer presented the deficit of the 1990s, the behavior and morals of Tavush intellectual families, their views and the formulas for overcoming many difficulties in those years, which are very close not only to Armenians but also to post-Soviet countries. That is why this book has been translated and read in all CIS countries.
At the heart of this wonderful novel and the crazy adventures of girls, are bright memories of love and loneliness, life and happiness. This amazing story tells about the most crucial things in life while using the simplest words. “Unfortunately, nowadays children do not have the childhood that we had. I say "unfortunately", because when I meet with school children, when I ask what kind of childhood they would like to have, I often hear the answer "like Manyunya’s or yours". The key to a happy childhood is freedom and the boundless love of loved ones.''
"Manyunya" is a story of a whole generation of childhood, of two friends born in Berd, Narine and Manyunya, strict and kind Ta, Manyunya's grandmother, and many relatives who constantly find themselves in incomprehensible situations. The author addressed this book to adult children aged 0 to 100 years.
The translator of the book is Narine Gijlaryan, cover of the book is authored by Naira Muradyan, illustrations of the book are by Edik Pogosyan.
The partner of the Armenian translation of the book is the Yerevan Chocolate Factory. The factory is under the brand of Mark Sevouni.
The book presentation of Narine Abgaryan’s “Narine writes a Fantastic Novel” will take place on February 19, at Congress Hotel, in the scope of the Newmag Winter Fest.
