The TV presentation of the second most popular book about Christianity after the Bible took place (video)
The TV presentation of the book “Mere Christianity” by Clive Staples Lewis took place within the framework of the “Morning Show” of Armenia TV. The author of the book was one of the intellectual giants of the 20th century and one of the most influential w
The “Mere Christianity” was translated by priest Haykazun Sahakyan. He emphasizes that the book begins with reflections on right and wrong in general, which are written in such a language that they will be clear to any person. “This book has something extremely important message, first, because it was written after the Second World War. The author himself, as a Christian, went through the war, and the bombings, and conveys to us the way of keeping his faith unshakable. The book shows how to walk forward with humility, trusting in God, and what expectations we can have from Him, how to improve our Christian life, and God's blessing and care to return to our nation”.
According to Tatevik Nalbandian, the supervising editor of the book, Clive Lewis participated in the Second World War as a soldier, he saw the devastation of the war up close and felt it on his skin, and the ideas of a person who went through that war about Christianity and morality are very interesting for us today.
“Today we are at war. This book is about Christian truths that seem to be known to everyone, yet many questions arise in anyone who encounters them. For example, “love your enemy” does not mean you should not punish him. He expresses a very clear position that the Christian soldier kills the enemy on the battlefield, and the Christian judge executes the criminal. He expresses a very clear position in these two cases and cites as an example the image of the Christian knight himself, fully armed, ready to defend the good cause, that is, there is not even a hint of desertion or pacifism”.
Tovmas Arakelyan, responsible for the youth affairs of the Diocese of Tavush, values this book especially nowadays. According to him, there were such authors in our era who spoke about “mere Christianity”.
"Such books are constantly changing the path, a good book has always changed the situation, and in our Armenian history there are many cases when one good book appeared at the most terrible moment, and that good book led the whole society to salvation. Morally, if we renounce Christianity, we sever ties with all the people who accepted Christianity at the time. Of course, we must preserve it, arm ourselves with it, and accept it as a historical fact.
The basis of the most important historical facts, both for Avarayr and others, is how much we deserve to be Vardans’ descendants, and how much we are with Vardan today. If we become Vasak's ideologue in broad social circles, then Vardan's victory will not be ours. Vasak brings a clear moral value system - the priority of trading with the Persians, the way to yield to the enemy and go to slavish peace. Well, if we say the same today as Vasak, we show whose morality we are the bearer of Vardan or Vasak. We all know the theses of both”.
Clive Staples Lewis presented Christianity with simple examples in the book, that there is one God, and that Jesus Christ is His only begotten Son whom He sent to save the world.
